Rooftop like we bringing '88 back

Made you look.

It's fitting that the inspiration for my '88 themed post comes from a song about '88 that wasn't released in '88 but in '07. I ain't gonna front, I wasn't listening to hip-hop back in '88. Damn, I didn't even have a concept as to what the four elements were. You got to remember, this was before Hammertime.

However, the LP that got me into hip-hop, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, and one of my fave ever rap tunes, a tune that pre-empted mid 90s West Coast bounce, were released in that same year.

Also, it's cool to say that I like hip hop cos it's not cool anymore. Myself being an opportunistic and aspiring hipster (not hipster), I am betting that the fallout of this genre with gen Y teens and tweens alike has hit a trough and that it is in the early stages of a recovery. Can't go too far ahead of the curve you see. Can't have too much lead time into the tipping point. Otherwise, it would be like girls rockin high waist jeans in late '05. The intended halo effect from being attributed as a early innovator simply would not be achieved.

For the real deal, here's a '88 hip hop mix that the Rub did:
JVC Force - Strong Island
LL Cool J - Jack the Ripper
Public Enemy - Don't Believe the Hype
Kool G Rap - Road to the Riches
Antoinette - Unfinished Business
Jungle Brothers - I Got It Like That
BDP - I'm Still #1 (Numero Uno Re-recording)
Run DMC - Beats to the Rhyme
Krown Rulers - Paper Chase
Tuff Crew - My Part of Town
Big Daddy - Set It Off
Kid N Play - Do This My Way
45 King - 900 Number
Rob Base - It Takes Two
Chill Rob G - The Power
L'Trimm - Cars That Go Boom
The Gucci Crew - Sally That Girl
The 2 Live Crew - Move Somethin
JJ Fad - Supersonic
NWA - Boyz in the Hood
Sir Mixalot - Posse on Broadway
MC EZ & Troup - Get Retarded
De La Soul - Plug Tuning
MC Lyte - 10% Dis
Queen Latifah - Wrath of My Madness
Eric B & Rakim - Microphone Fiend
Juice Crew - The Symphony
Biz Markie & Big Daddy Kane - Just Rhymin With The Biz
Craig G - Droppin Science
Positive K - Step Up Front
Stetsasonic - Talkin All That Jazz

On a final note, my bday is 22/2 and I turned 8 in '88. I spotted this ride outside Assin on the weekend. If someone who reads this blog owns the ride, gimme a holla. I gotta have that license plate. Wouldn't mind the car either but damn, priorities.

Wool pulled over eyes of poodle buyers

When it comes to pulling wool over the eyes ... the net is buzzing with a story about thousands of Japanese being swindled in a scam in which they were sold Australian and British sheep and told they were poodles.

Flocks of sheep were reportedly imported to Japan and then sold by a company called Poodles as Pets, marketed as fashionable accessories, available at $1,600 each.
That is a snip compared to a real poodle which retails for twice that much in Japan.

The reported scam was uncovered when Japanese moviestar Maiko Kawamaki went on a talk-show and wondered why her new pet would not bark or eat dog food.
She was apparently crestfallen when told it was a sheep. So, it seems, sheep that good at playing the part of poodles.

The story goes that hundreds of other women got in touch with police to say they feared their new "poodle" was also a sheep.

It seems one presumably shortsighted couple said they became suspicious when they took their "dog" to have its claws trimmed and were told it had hooves.
Japanese police believe there could be 2000 people affected by the scam, which operated in Sapporo and capitalised on the fact that sheep are rare in Japan, so many do not know what they look like.

"We launched an investigation after we were made aware that a company were selling sheep as poodles," Japanese police said, the The Sun reported.
"Sadly we think there is more than one company operating in this way.
"The sheep are believed to have been imported from overseas - Britain, Australia."
Many of the sheep have now been donated to zoos and farms.

Quote of the week

From Shortsie & Anna's blog about their current world trip...

"Japan has to be the best country in the world. There is very little crime, but when there is, its some kind of bizarre fucked shit like killing an english girl, cutting her up and then putting the pieces in to a bathtub full of sand. that particular incident happend when we arrived, and i ask you, what the fuck is that about?..."

sneak's perspective on meeting "the chad" in syd

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
the gassy is just across the road- todd loves this photo

i was walking down crown st and there was this "dude" that i knew was from melbs. he was lying on the ground- the cold, cold concrete and he had no idea where he was mumbling to himself..
since i knew he was memphis' friend i asked if he was ok and he replied something along the lines of:
"nah, im cool man. im sweet here on the ground"
"are u sure"?"
"yep, trust me"
so, i just shrugged my shoulders and continued into the gassy

i gots some tips..

The Punk Skater and the Fresh/Hip-Hop Skater

* STEP 1: Shop for the punk skater look. Start with shoes. Low-top Classic Vans and Half Cab Vans are by far the most common. Chuck Taylor Converse is a possible style, as well. Almost any shoe will work for you as long as it is laced tightly and will develop holes.
* STEP 2: Choose the proper pants. You have only three options: Levis 501s, Dickies or Ben Davis. Get one of each and wash them only once a year. Shorts? You're out of your mind. Socks and underwear are optional. Decide between a black, studded leather belt or no belt at all.
* STEP 3: Select the right shirts. They must be tight (medium or large only) and worn. Don't have too many skating shirts (only Anti-Hero, Black Label, Spitfire and Independent); concentrate more on old rock band shirts (AC/DC, etc.) and beer shirts.
* STEP 4: Pick your outerwear: hooded sweatshirts or plastic-like windbreaker jackets.
* STEP 5: Accessorize: Mesh baseball hats of all types are good, preferably backwards, and you need to find a ring or a bracelet with a skull or some spikes.
* STEP 6: Shop for the fresh/hip-hop skater look. Start with shoes. Anything with air or gel in them is good. ES, Circa, Axion, DC and Osiris will be your main brands, Nike or Adidas for chilling. Ankle socks only.
* STEP 7: Choose the proper pants. Puffy basketball/break-away/sweatsuit pants are the dopest, and if you can't get those, very baggy jeans with a woven leather belt that hangs down once tightened will suffice. Basketball mesh shorts are good for the summer.
* STEP 8: Select the right shirts. Basketball mesh jerseys, XL skateboard company and related company T-shirts.
* STEP 9: Pick your outerwear: Polo or Hilfiger sweatshirts.
* STEP 10: Accessorize: A tab-pull baseball hat or fitting skateboard-brand knit beanie for your head, and the optional gold chain will complete your outfit.
