Rooftop like we bringing '88 back
Made you look.
It's fitting that the inspiration for my '88 themed post comes from a song about '88 that wasn't released in '88 but in '07. I ain't gonna front, I wasn't listening to hip-hop back in '88. Damn, I didn't even have a concept as to what the four elements were. You got to remember, this was before Hammertime.
However, the LP that got me into hip-hop, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, and one of my fave ever rap tunes, a tune that pre-empted mid 90s West Coast bounce, were released in that same year.
Also, it's cool to say that I like hip hop cos it's not cool anymore. Myself being an opportunistic and aspiring hipster (not hipster), I am betting that the fallout of this genre with gen Y teens and tweens alike has hit a trough and that it is in the early stages of a recovery. Can't go too far ahead of the curve you see. Can't have too much lead time into the tipping point. Otherwise, it would be like girls rockin high waist jeans in late '05. The intended halo effect from being attributed as a early innovator simply would not be achieved.
For the real deal, here's a '88 hip hop mix that the Rub did:

On a final note, my bday is 22/2 and I turned 8 in '88. I spotted this ride outside Assin on the weekend. If someone who reads this blog owns the ride, gimme a holla. I gotta have that license plate. Wouldn't mind the car either but damn, priorities.
